How MiqatLine handles prayer records, optional permissions, and the services you choose to use.

MiqatLine is a prayer-time and prayer-history companion for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This policy covers the app and this support website.

Prayer records and settings

MiqatLine stores prayer schedules, saved locations, calculation and reminder settings, prayer entries, and the information you choose to add on your device. Optional records include prayer times, congregation and context, notes, Qada recoveries, excused pauses, optional prayers, journal entries, and mosque or iqama preferences. This information can reveal religious practice or other sensitive personal details. You choose what to record.

The iPhone app shares relevant local data with its widgets and system surfaces. The companion Apple Watch app keeps a local schedule and action queue, and exchanges information with your paired iPhone so prayer records can be updated when the devices reconnect.

No MiqatLine account is required. Version 1.0 does not include advertising, tracking domains, or a third-party analytics SDK. The “Share anonymous diagnostics” preference does not transmit diagnostics in this release; no diagnostics provider is implemented.

Location and prayer timetable requests

You can enter a city, country, and time zone manually without granting location permission, or choose “Use Current Location.” Location helps select prayer schedules and provide Qibla guidance. Saved location information is stored on your device.

MiqatLine retrieves prayer schedules from Aladhan at api.aladhan.com over HTTPS. Depending on your selected lookup, a request includes city and country or latitude and longitude, the requested date, and calculation settings. Coordinate requests can contain precise location. The app does not add your prayer history, notes, journal, name, account ID, or a device identifier to these requests. The service can receive normal network information, including the connecting IP address.

Aladhan is an external timetable service. A response on Islamic Network’s community forum states that query parameters are logged and that retention depends on available storage. Because coordinate lookups include latitude and longitude as query parameters, those logs may include the submitted coordinates. This is an inference from the API format and the provider’s logging statement. MiqatLine does not control Aladhan’s server practices or guarantee a fixed deletion schedule.

Background travel detection is optional and requires a separate choice and location permission. It can suggest changing the active prayer location; you decide whether to accept a suggestion. Manage it under More > Settings > Prayer times.

Apple Maps and Qibla

Qibla guidance uses the device’s location and heading. Nearby mosque searches use Apple’s Maps services, and “Open in Maps” opens Apple Maps. Apple handles information used by its services under its own practices.

Optional Fajr Smart Wake

Fajr Smart Wake is optional and is armed on Apple Watch. During an activated session, Watch motion helps assess movement and wakeability. Optional read-only heart-rate access provides additional evidence. The feature does not identify sleep stages and does not add or modify Apple Health data.

Sensor samples are processed by the Watch wakeability engine. MiqatLine keeps local session information and wakeability summaries; readiness and session status can appear on your paired iPhone. No developer-server or Aladhan upload of motion or heart-rate samples is implemented. Smart Wake sensor history is excluded from private iCloud prayer sync.

Manage Health and Motion permissions in Apple’s system settings. Use “Reset Smart Wake history” on the Watch Smart Wake screen to clear its saved summaries.

Optional private iCloud sync

Private iCloud sync is off by default. If you enable it under More > Settings > Data and privacy, the app uses your own private CloudKit database. An iCloud account is required for this optional feature. The private database is user-owned and is not visible in the developer portal by default.

The sync payload includes preferences, prayer entries, recoveries, pauses, optional prayer records, mosque and iqama preferences, and limited historical timetable references. Saved locations, city/country labels, GPS coordinates, widget snapshots, and Live Activity state are excluded.

Prayer notes and journal text require the separate “Sync private notes” choice. A label you enter for an excused pause remains part of its pause record.

Turning off sync stops syncing; it does not delete a previously stored private iCloud snapshot. To remove synced prayer data through the app, keep sync enabled while using the confirmed history-deletion or full-reset action so the app can first remove its private iCloud snapshot. If removal cannot complete, the app reports an error.

Export, import, and deletion

More > Settings > Data and privacy provides a restorable backup, CSV and PDF exports, backup import, “Delete all prayer history,” and “Full reset.” Exports omit private notes and journal unless you select “Include private notes and journal.” You choose where an export is saved or shared.

Exported or shared files are separate copies controlled by you and any recipient. Deleting app data does not remove those copies.

History deletion keeps settings and cached schedules. Full reset also removes preferences and returns the app to onboarding. Both actions require confirmation. Records support your history until you change or delete them; MiqatLine does not set a fixed retention period for records on your device or in your private iCloud database.

This website and support email

This is a static website hosted on Netlify. The authored pages contain no custom analytics, advertising, contact forms, or cookie storage. Netlify receives ordinary request information, such as IP address and browser details, to serve the website and operate its hosting service.

If you contact support by email, we receive your email address and the information you choose to share so we can respond. Please avoid sending private prayer notes, journal entries, backups, precise coordinates, or Health information unless you decide it is necessary.

See Netlify’s privacy statement for information about its practices.

Your choices and contact

You can use a manual city, decline optional permissions, leave optional tools and iCloud sync off, choose whether notes are synced or exported, correct records, export data, or use the confirmed deletion controls.
